Democracy requires a well-educated citizenry, while our world is becoming increasingly complex. Digital technology contributes to the need for lifelong learning, but can also help to provide the resources to make lifelong learning possible.
Digital public spaces can help to enable quality lifelong education by housing accessible and open educational resources. In physical and digital spaces alike, opportunities for learning by doing should be made available (through workshops, fablabs, tutorials, and other forms of open educational opportunities). We ought to approach learning as a collaborative process that can strengthen ties between people and communities, locally and globally.
